Vacation into Arta. Tours to Athens

Description

Arta: an intriguing destination

Arta is the capital of the prefecture of Arta and the second largest city in Epirus after Ioannina. It’s located on the banks of the River Arahthos, surrounded by olive and orange groves. The name Arta means Fortress in Greek. The city is a gateway to South Greece and a significant commercial and military center.

Arta’s treasures

Perched on Peranthi Hill, Arta offers magnificent views of the surroundings. The city of Arta was built on the ruins of ancient Amvrakia offering numerous archaeological sites to history lovers. But the city has more to it: natural parks, waterfalls and the impressive Mount Tzoumerka, the lazy River Arahthos and the city’s hallmark – the Bridge of Arta.

Modern Arta

Modern Arta features well developed infrastructure with its heart beating on Skoufa Square – a popular meeting point of the city. For those wishing to learn about the city there is the Skoufa Folklore Museum. Numerous traditional villages easily accessible from the city represent good daytripping options.
