Description

Limassol is the second largest city in Cyprus and the island's largest resort which welcomes guests all year round.

The resort was named Cypriot Riviera for its pleasant climate, hospitality, cosmopolitan and well-developed tourist infrastructure. 

There are a variety of excellent hotels, stylish restaurants, cafes, bars, nightclubs and discos. Besides the active tourist life, the city features a business atmosphere, it is a cultural and commercial center of the island. In addition, Limassol (means "the average city") is located between the popular resorts of Paphos and Ayia Napa, between main attractions of the island, ancient Curio and ancient Amathus.

You can also look the colorful Turkish neighborhood with houses decorated in traditional style near the old port. A pedestrian zone stretches along the old port, it is a pleasant place for walking. Unique avant-garde pictures of contemporary artists from Greece, Cyprus and other countries enliven a Limassol promenade. Discos and clubs, bars with live music concentrated in the area of ​​Potamos Germasogeia will attract admirers of nightlife in Limassol.

The resort is recommended for couples or groups of friends, active young people, and for measured family vacation or business travel; it is also a good starting point to travel the island. Festivals and Holidays

Limassol is one of the most colorful and cosmopolitan cities of Cyprus with festivals and nightlife. In spring the city "blooms" with carnivals, colorful parades, masquerades; Summer brings Dramatic Art Festival, on which theater companies come from different countries of the world, and the performances are in historic buildings and on the stage of the ancient theater of Kourion, which gives the action a special appeal. By the beginning of autumn harvest festivals and the famous festival in honor of Dionysus, god of wine, representing the best Cypriot aromatic wines come in Limassol. The first days of October are the annual festival "Afamiya" grape, which takes place in a site Koilani, near from Limassol. There are wine tasting, desserts, sweets. The best beach is considered Ladie's Mile Beach. It stretches for 8 km to the west of the city. It is located near the British military base of Akrotiri and it is recommended to have a passport to travel to this part of the coast


Attractions

Medieval castle
Museum of the History of the Middle Ages is located near the old port. Exhibits are coins, bronzes, pottery, dishes, vases, weapons, armors of the Templar era. An excellent view of the surroundings and the minaret towering near palm grove opens from the terrace.

Archaeological Museum
The museum is located in the eastern part of the city, next to the city garden. The earliest exhibits in the museum's collection is dated back to the Bronze Age, such as pottery, vases, statuettes of pagan Egyptian deities.

Zoo Park
The only Zoo in Cyprus operates in the city park, where the annual wine festival is held. Its inhabitants are the elephants, lions, mouflon, monkeys, birds.

Waterpark Fasouri Watermania
It is located 10 km west of Limassol in a beautiful area Fasouri surrounded by citrus orchards. It is open daily from May to the end of October, from 10.00 to 18.00.

Lunapark Oasis
It is in the Yermasoyia area. There are attractions for children of younger and older age groups.

Scuba Diving
There are a large selection of scuba diving spots in Limassol. There are Scuba Diving Centers Aloha (nearby Park Beach Hotel) and Dive-in (at Amathus Beach Hotel) as well as in the Mediterranean Beach Hotel and Four Seasons.

Kolossi Castle
The fortress, built at the beginning of the XIII century, is located 15 km to the west of the city. Colossus is a symbol of the Crusaders stay in Cyprus. Castle's name comes from the name Garinusa de Colossus, the original owner of the land in Limassol surroundings. Historically, the area adjacent to the castle united 40 villages where olives, grapes, sugar cane and cotton was grown.

Antique Kourion
Kourion Ruins are located 22 km west of Limassol, 5 km to the west of the Colossus. This is one of the oldest cities of the island, its occurrence belong to the Mycenaean era. The ruins at several sites is kept to this day such as the Sanctuary of Apollo, the ancient stadium, villas with mosaics, Greek-Roman amphitheater (could accommodate up to 3500 spectators, it was renovated in 1961 and performs its original role today, music festivals, concerts, Greek tragedy are held here). You can reach Kourion from the fortress of Kolossi by bus.
