Religion of Latvia

 

14 religious communities, including 719 communities and parishes are registered in Latvia today. There is no state religion. The vast number of believers among Latvians who live at the west and center of the country is Lutheran. Most of the Russian-speaking inhabitants are Orthodox; to the east and south of the country Lithuanians, Latgalians and Poles are Catholics. In Latvia, there is a significant community of Old Believers, mostly in Latgale (east of the country).
