Despite the fact that the largest freshwater lake in the world throughout history has attracted a large number of researchers and scholars, the Limnological museum dedicated to this lake was opened not so long ago, only in 1993, but has already managed to gather a large number of interesting and valuable items, and if you want to learn more about Lake Baikal, the Limnological Museum is the most appropriate place to do this. Its collection is as complete as possible, so you can learn about the lake everything: from its inhabitants to the research of the depths of Lake Baikal.

The museum's collection includes a variety of exhibits.

  • Stuffed animals and fish who dwell in the lake. The museum describes the complete history of exploring the lake, from the very first mention of it until today.
  • The Aquarium presents a large number of fish found in the lake, and their today's underwater life is also shown partly. The Aquarium has more than 20 species of fish and two Baikal seals), consisting of 11 large aquariums. The tanks are filled exclusively with the lake water.
  • Cameras have been installed on the lake in its various parts, transmitting videos on the monitors of the museum. You can see other unique footage and reconstructions of life of the inhabitants of the lake, as well as many other events, such as the origin of life on the Earth.
  • You can immerse yourself in a bathyscaphe to a considerable depth of the lake. Of course the bathyscaphe is not real and the trip is virtual, but it is fascinating. In a special room that looks like a bathyscaphe is played a virtual dive to the bottom of the lake, and in the process the conditions at different depths, from shallow to deep point, are simulated.
  • The area around the park has a 4-hectare dendro-park, which also collected the largest possible collection of plants growing on the shores of Lake Baikal, including rare and endangered species. It also reproduces the natural landscapes of the lake shore.
  • The museum is open daily from 9 am to 19 pm. The museum can be visited with a guide as well as on your own.
