Balaton is the largest in Central Europe freshwater lake with an area of 596 sq. km, and the length - 78 km. The greatest depth of the lake is 11 km. Its shore is equipped with beautiful beaches and there are some very good hotels. The most popular resorts of Lake Balaton are Fonyod, Siofok, Balatonfoldvar, Szantod, Keszthely, Tihany, Tapolca, Badacsony.
Balaton is all in myths and legends. According to the most popular of them, on the bottom of the lake there is the altar of the ancient church, preceded by inconsolable crying girl from unrequited love, that is why the water in the lake looks like a sea.
All of Europe knows this place as a great option for a family vacation at an affordable price. Also here comes for wellness tourism - on the shore of the lake there are some very good medical and health resorts with mineral springs.
The bottom of the lake is sandy, so the water is warming up very quickly, but thanks to the peculiarities of the Hungarian climate in the lake water is often even higher than the air temperature.

Every summer, from July to August, on the northern shore of Lake Balaton is held a festival "Valley of Arts", where it shows authors movies, theatrical performances and concerts of musical groups.
