Description

Visegrad is a small town in central Hungary, with a population of only 1,700 people. Despite its modest size, it is very popular among tourists because of the Visegrad fortress, and in the XIV century, the city was even the capital of Hungary.

HISTORY

This is a very ancient city, and on the land where it is located, people were still living in the Stone Age. From 1335 to 1339 Visegrad was the capital of Hungary, but the King Lajos the Great returned the capital status to Bud, and the glorious city of Visegrad was used as a summer residence for the royal family.


ATTRACTIONS

The most brilliant period in the long history of the town took place in the reign of King Matthias. At this time, an amazing Marble Palace in the best features of Renaissance architecture was built in the town, which is often called "the second Alhambra."
