St. Petersburg night city tour

Imperial residences. Peterhof (Grand Palace and parks)

This imperial summer residence is famous all over the world. This town of parks, palaces and fountains was founded by Peter the Great in the beginning of the 18th century to commemorate the glory of Russia. According to his plan a Palace was built on beautiful terraces that are descending to the sea, it is surrounded with splendid cascades of fountains, parks with small palaces and pavilions. The centre of the ensemble is the 19 meter fountain of Samson tearing the lion’s mouth which was the symbol of the Victory of Russian troops over the Swedish in the war for the access to the Baltic sea.

Imperial residences. Pavlovsk (The palace and park)

This classical palace is located 27 km away from St. Petersburg as a summer residence of the tsar Paul I and his family. It is one of the few palaces that retain the cozy and private atmosphere of the royal family. The beautiful park of the palace that covers the area of 600 hectares is one of the largest parks in Europe. It is considered to be a perfect example of romantic landscape parks of the beginning of the 19th century. By all means it deserves to be called “music for the eyes”

Masterpieces of the Northern capital

Keep in Revolutionary step!

Palace Square, Arch of the General Staff Building.

One of the key events of October revolution — Bolshevist capture of the residence of Provisional government, which was located in the Winter Palace. Visit of the Museum of political history of Russia storing certificates of political life of the Russian society since the end of XVIII till the beginning of the XXI century. Kshesinskaya's mansion in which there is the museum - one of the brightest representatives of a northern modernist style who watched the last Russian emperor and go through the October revolution.

Finliandsky railway station. In April, 1917 having climbed up specially adjusted English armored car, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin delivered a passionate speech, and his final phrase ("Long live a socialist revolution!") became the presage of the future changes.

Lomonosov porcelain factory

The imperial factory founded in 1744 was the first porcelain production in Russia. Until 1917 the factory belonged to the Romanov family which explains the name of Imperial manufacture. It was here that Dmitri Vinogradov created the first Easter egg for the empress Elizabeth I. The museum founded in 1844 possesses an impressing collection of the 18th century porcelain.

Faberge Museum

The Fabergé Museum is St. Petersburg was created for the preservation, study and promotion of Russia’s cultural heritage. It is private Museum own by nonprofit charitable organization The Link of Times established by the Russian entrepreneur Vekselberg. Museum houses the former Malcolm Forbes collection of works by Fabergé masters, including nine famous imperial Easter eggs that that are of great value not only as the objects made with the highest jewelry skills, but also as unique historical artifacts. The museum collection also includes decorative and applied art created by Russian masters of the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The official opening is scheduled for spring, 2014.

Novgorod

Veliky Novgorod is one of the most ancient and famous towns in Russia: in 2009 it celebrated its 1150 birthday. From the day of its foundation Novgorod was the largest and the most important centre of political, economic and cultural life of Russia. In Veliky Novgorod it is sometimes difficult to tell the border between the town and the museum. About 50 precious monuments of ancient Russian architecture make part of the vivid life of a modern town. We will go on a tour around the town, visit the Kremlin and the most ancient monument – the Cathedral of St. Sofia that was founded in 1045. After lunch in a local restaurant we will visit the Yaroslav’s Court, Yuriev Monastery and the Vitoslavlitsy Museum of Wooden Architecture.
