Kazan
Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan.
Kazan, a city with more than a thousand years of history, the meeting place of two worlds, where people of different religions and nationalities, have been living together in peace for centuries. The state center of the republic is the Kazan Kremlin. It is the favorite attraction for both tourists coming to Kazan on purpose, and those who are just passing through.
The Tatar Hermitage, historical monuments and modern museum complexes are marvelous, as well as the shopping arcade with souvenirs near the Kremlin walls. The Syuyumbike Tower, the Cathedral of the Annunciation and the Kul-Sharif Mosque are the most memorable images of the Kazan Kremlin.
The historic city center is divided into two parts, the "Russian" (Kazan Posad) and the "Tatar" (Old-Tatar Sloboda) with a unique ensemble of national Tatar architecture. Tourists and pilgrims actively visit the Peter and Paul Cathedral, the Kazan Virgin Monastery with a copy of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, as well as the unique historical and architectural complexes of the Raif Monastery and Sviyazhsk.
The popular attractions include the pedestrian Peterburg Street, the Kazan metro stations Millennium and Pyramid, the Millennium and Kyrlai Parks, the hotel and water park complex Riviera, the wooden town of the complex Tugan Avylym, the Zoological and Botanic Gardens, and many others.
