Northwestern Russia

 

The North-West region of Russia includes the territory of the two republics, six regions, one autonomous region and one of the most beautiful cities of Russia - St. Petersburg, the capital of the Russian Empire.

The region is bordered by Finland, Norway, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, and washed by the Baltic, White, Barents and Kara Seas.
It occupies only 9.8% of the territory of the Russian Federation, but there are so many attractions here!The northernmost point of Russia, Europe and Eurasia (Cape Fligely) and the easternmost point of Europe (Cape Flissingsky) in the Arkhangelsk region.Karelia - the land of rocks, boulders, and dozens of thousands of lakes, the largest of which - Ladoga and Onega - are the largest reservoirs in Europe. Virgin forests of the Northern Urals, which no longer exist in Europe. Old Koenigsberg and the Curonian Spit - a museum of natural areas in miniature, with deciduous and coniferous forests are replaced by endless sand dunes and bird colonies.  

The Russian North has a vast number of monasteries and holy places: Solovki, Valaam, Belozersk, Ferapontovo, Pskov, Novgorod - once here, among the harsh northern forests, lakes and gray rocks, devotees sought solitude, and now thousands of pilgrims from all over the country come here.

Natural monuments, lakes and waterfalls attract outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers.But lovers of more relaxing pastime can also find a kind of leisure to their liking.
