Tokaj is the most famous Hungarian wine created in the north-east of the country and brought the popularity of the sweet wines of Hungary. He was loved by many historical figures including Beethoven, Louis XIV, Peter I. This wine is so well known in Hungary that it even mentioned in the hymn.

Recently, when Hungary was ruled by the Communists, the quality of Hungarian wine has deteriorated, as the taste and variety of wines traded at record harvests. One of the most southern and sultry wine regions of Hungary is Villani. It produces wines with the widest range of flavor. In Villani are produced delicious wine varieties "Cabernet Sauvignon", "Bordeaux", "Merlot", "Cabernet Franc". North of Villani are situated the famous wineries Szekszard, known by grape variety "portugezer". Every year in October, a wine festival is held in Villani.
