A Bit of History
Even in ancient times, this region was known as the land of Perea, and on the site of the modern town the ancient town of Therma was situated. Therma, famous for its hot springs was considered to the favorite town of the Olympian gods. The patron goddess of the town was Artemis.
The modern history of Loutraki can be counted from 1847, when the healing properties of its mineral springs were first announced in Italy.
In 1928 Loutraki was completely destroyed by the earthquake and rebuilt.
In 1930 the first casino of Greece was built in Loutraki. Today it’s the hallmark of the town and the biggest casino in Europe.
The origin of the name Loutraki is obvious – loutra in Greek means "thermal springs."
