Then the road will lead us to the village of Stepantsminda, which in the last century and at the beginning of this century bore the name of Kazbegi.
The road to Kazbegi takes about one and a half hours; on the way we will visit the famous ski resort Gudauri - the most popular winter holiday destination in
Georgia. This modern, well-equipped resort offers a variety of trails for both beginners and pros.
Stepantsminda (Kazbegi)
The settlement of Stepantsminda is located on the left bank of the Terek River, which begins its stormy path to the Caspian Sea nearby. Picturesque views of
Mount Kazbek perfectly complement the historical facts that are stored in this place. There was Alexander Pushkin who left his memories and descriptions
in the poem “Monastery in Kazbek”: the poet was impressed by the Gerget Church, the greatness of the mountains, the unity of architectural and natural beauty. We will visit this unique temple, erected high in the mountains, at around 2,170 meters above sea level, the temple was built in 1330 and is dedicated to the Holy Trinity, many legends developed why it was built here.

In the 30s-40s of the 20th century, Georgian climbers who climbed Kazbek discovered a cave of hermit monks at an altitude of 4,100 meters, most likely this
temple was built for monks who could not live above this mark. From here there is a magnificent view of Kazbek 5033m. According to legend, Prometheus
was chained to this mountain. Also in the village operates an interesting ethnographic museum, it is located in the house of the famous writer A. Kazbegi.
